When did the United States stop producing silver coins? There are many people who say 1964. However, the Kennedy half dollars were 40% silver from 1965 to 1970 so there you go. These were the last silver coins in general circulation of US currency. Well, some people like to collect pretty high grade pre 1965 silver coins. However, you pay too much of a premium. Others get dirty scuff up junk silver that is pre 1965 US coinage. Those pieces do not look new. My favorites are Canadian silver 1oz coins. Fact is they are more secure than bullion bars and look nicer. Time to start is now. Future price of silver is going up. I expect spot silver to jump.
