Future of School

The big yellow school bus is an icon of our age and yet not seen in the future. Students use education machines.

And this future seems closer now that we have classes over the computer. Before we thought teachers and schools were needed, but now we see that students can learn using education machines.

As the price of oil increases the cost of sending students sometimes hundreds of miles to a far away school becomes prohibitive. In rural regions we will soon see satellite and internet classes replace the traditional education as the big yellow school bus becomes a ancient relic of the past.

That custom of giving the teacher an apple may seem quaint, but our customs of placing hundreds of children is a big yellow school bus seem also odd to people in the future.

It is that they do not understand why we act the way we do. To them the apple is symbolic of gaining knowledge. Should not the teacher give the pupil the fruit?

It does not make a lot of sense to have it the other way around.

Many common cultural icons will be replaced as we move into the future. A society that blows its money does not last long. For far too long SAT scores have going down. We need to invest more time and money into our most valuable resource - the young. Children are the future. They represent what we will become.

Children in the future use learning machines that stimulate the brain. They do not read books. There are no schools or a big yellow school bus to pick them up. Parents are responsible for their children and they do not depend on institutions.
